A physical, shiny disc that stores digital audio, using microscopic pits and lands read by a laser in a CD player to reproduce music,  offering superior sound quality and track skipping over vinyl/tapes, and became the dominant music format by storing up to 80 minutes of uncompressed audio in the Red Book standard.
